Porsche 75th Anniversary Track Day — Colour Grading

Client: BIGSIX MEDIA (Toronto)

End client: Porsche Downtown Toronto

Project: 75th Anniversary Track Day Event Film

Role: Colour grading by Volta Digital

Introduction

Volta Digital provided colour grading for BIGSIX MEDIA on an event film marking Porsche's 75th anniversary, produced for Porsche Downtown Toronto. The track day brought owners, enthusiasts and the dealership community together around both the current range and the collector cars that people brought out for the occasion.

Objectives

Automotive work lives or dies on how the cars look. Paint finish, light moving across a body, the particular reds and silvers for which a marque is known. For a brand with 75 years of visual identity behind it, the grade had to meet the standard the badge sets.

Key Features and Benefits

  1. Specialist colour work on a premium automotive brand. Grading for a marque where the audience knows exactly what the cars should look like.

  2. Mixed subject matter in one grade. New showroom models alongside enthusiast and collector cars, shot across a full track day, brought to a consistent look.

  3. Event footage, treated as brand film. Track days are shot fast and in changing light. The grade is where that footage stops looking like coverage and starts looking like a brand piece.

Outcomes

The film was given the final look it needed.

Conclusion

Colour grading is invisible when it's right and obvious when it isn't, particularly on cars.
